English for the Digital and Information Technology Industry
Introduction
The course provides students with a general overview of the digital and information technology industry(ies) today. They will learn the language used to describe the market, the products and services, the players, the competition and the challenges. Learning will consist of discussion, reading and group presentations.
Learning Objectives
Students will develop business and technological vocabulary used in the industry and learn how to use it to describe current situations and trends as well as making recommendations. Students will exercise all fours skills, Speaking, Reading, Listening and Writing. Classes will be a mix of reading, writing, listening (audio/video) and speaking through individual or group work.

To be completed/verified
A mark out of 20 (taking into account work, participation in class and written assignments), a communication level, a European Framework level, and a final exam

Overview of the industry – players, services and products.
2) Over The Top (OTT) Services
What are over the top services, how are they impacting the traditional telecommunications providers?
3) Futuristic Projects – (by GAFA companies or others)
A look at some of the futuristic projects under development
4) Consolidation and Convergence
Examples of mergers and acquisitions and the rational driving the moves.
5) Internet of Things and Big Data
The exponential growth of IOT and how the big data generated can be used.
8) Environmental Issues
The impact of the industry on the environment, data centres, manufacturing processes. How can the industry go greener?
9) Presentations - Describing Products or solutions
Learn how to describe a product or service and promote its benefits.
