Descriptif

This course prepares you to discover how consumer culture is designed by manufacturing and industry through exploring weekly themes, or movements, which have had a major impact on how we live, eat and dream. The three main themes include world building or shaping stories, data dives or designing information and speculative or critical design futures. You will discover how creative initiatives get started, moving from case studies of the beginnings of modernity towards a highly sophisticated industrialized entertainment industry or even the commercial art behind the products that make up your fridge (keep in mind the global food industry has yearly revenues that more than double consumer electronics). You will learn how to contextualize a world flooded with products and develop a deeper understanding of how the creative sector drives and sometimes questions the future through the medium of art and design.

Objectifs pédagogiques

You will develop practical, conceptual and analytical skills. Your ongoing project will be an individual process book, which is a visual research tool that creative teams use as a weekly research journal, sometimes adapted into eventual communication tools or a development pitch for clients or partners for most any creative initiative.
