Descriptif
The BME Design Project aims to put knowledge into practice. Student groups work on an open-ended biomedical engineering design problem, guided by one or more BME faculty, industrial sponsors, and/or clinicians.
The class teaches how to apply engineering knowledge to a real-world problem through the implementation of a sound design strategy involving the following steps:
- Understanding the problem
- Defining the needs and objectives
- Identifying possible design strategies and methodologies for attaining the objectives
- Analyzing the technical and practical feasibility of the identified strategies
- Selecting the optimal design strategy
- Implementing the final design strategy
- Presenting the results
The character of the projects is highly variable, from theoretical studies to laboratory experiments.
Objectifs pédagogiques
The Design Project course emphasizes the importance of teamwork skills, consideration of real-word constraints, analysis of existing solutions, sketching and creativity, prototyping, communication and presentation skills.
