Beyond Classroom Conversation

We have all attended English classes, some of them excellent! And most of us can manage pretty well in the context of a classroom, whether speaking or writing. But what happens outside of the classroom? How can we manage a business lunch, or a dinner with fellow students, or an after-dinner drink? What are the social codes, the vocabulary, and the expectations? In this course, we’ll take our inspiration from outside of the classroom and look at speaking English differently – in casual (and not so casual) discussion about food, about series, about film or what you’re currently reading as well as through analysis of just what makes French and English conversation (and culture) different.

This course will have you speaking a lot, and thinking about how and what you say in context - through conversation, mini-presentations, film and sports critiques, a bit of politics...
