Descriptif

The course combines on-line lectures (MOOC) and in-class tutorials

This course was previously labelled MEC561B

This course is aimed at the understanding of the basic phenomena that control the interactions between simultaneous motions of fluids and solids. Applications are found in the domains of transport and energy  engineering, aeronautics and civil engineering, biomechanics and microelectronics, among  many others.

Syllabus (see also at <http://www.coursera.org/learn/fluid-solid-interaction>)

I Dynamic dimensional analysis in fluid-structure interactions

II Interaction of a solid with a fluid at rest

III Interaction of a solid with a fast flow

IV Interaction of a solid with a slow  flow

V- Couping with any flow

Presequisite : Fundamentals of solid and fluid mechanis are needed. A course in dynamics is useful.

Evaluation : Final written exam

This course will be taught in English

This course will be taught  as follows :

(a) the lectures will be in the form of a MOOC (on-line classes) <http://www.coursera.org/learn/fluid-solid-interaction>, see also http://goo.gl/YKSMnD

(b) the exercise class will be in English
