Descriptif
Philosophy of technology: Humanity, Earth and Space
This course examines how modern technology has reshaped, and continues to reshape, the relationship between humanity, the Earth, and the cosmos. Drawing on a set of seminal twentieth- and twenty-first-century texts, it traces an arc that begins with the technological transformation of the human condition on Earth, moves through the planetary crisis this transformation has produced, and ends with various speculative projects to engineer the planet, leave it, or remake the human body for life beyond it.
Given the speculative nature of the questions posed, the goal will be not only to engage in philosophical reflection on them, but also to learn how to incorporate what the imagination can contribute to this reflection.
This course is not open to International Exchange program students.
